Child Therapy

For parents who have done all they know to do and still find their child (age 3-10) stuck in anger, depression, anxiety, stress, or grief in Carmel, Indiana.

“You don’t know what you don’t know.” And that is ok. We are here to guide you in this process and share our knowledge and resources to help your child find joy and connection again.

There's hope. I promise.

You're exhausted. You have tried everything. You just don't understand what you could possibly be doing wrong. You are bending over backwards  to show them your love. You give in to their requests  as much as you possibly can. You are in over your head with these behaviors and don't see a way out. If any of the following sounds like your child, we can help:

  • Your child is constantly angry. They can't lose at anything, have the wrong shirt picked out, have someone look at them "wrong", and definitely can't handle hearing a NO.

  • Your child is highly anxious. They can't go out in public, let alone school or to a friend's house without having a meltdown. They need you constantly. You never get a break and are exhausted. You just want them to feel calm and confident.

  • Your child is always dysregulated. They are bouncing off the walls, having a fit, extremely tired, or anywhere in between. It never seems they find a state of calm in their body. This could be from ADHD, trauma, or other stress on the body.

  • Your child went through something traumatic and hasn't been the same since. A surgery, a natural disaster, a parent's divorce, a loved one passing away, an adoption( yes, even at birth), COVID isolation, someone getting sick, physical or sexual abuse, moving away, bullying, and more.

  • Your child is afraid of emotions. They will not share how they are feeling. They get angry whenever you ask. They often hide and isolate when upset. You feel you have lost a deeper connection to your child because of this.

  • Your child is worried constantly. Will the teacher get mad at me today? Will my friends ask me to play? Will I miss anything on the spelling test? What if the storm wrecks our house? What if mom and dad get into a car crash? What if I lose my soccer game?

  • Your child is depressed. They have lost all motivation and excitement for things you know they love to do. They isolate themselves. They don't share their feelings with you. They don't have many friends. They have low self esteem.

This isn’t your fault.  Your child is in a constant state of dysregulation and

you just don't know what to do.

Your child is precious.

We've been told so many times, "You have helped us get our child back." Or "You have helped me see my child for who they are under these behaviors." This is our bread and butter.  This is what we love more than anything. When you get to see the preciousness of your child again and fully delight in who they are. And when they are able to delight in who they are as well.

  • Your child with anger will feel connected, cared for, and regulated. They will have the tools to understand their anger and get their needs met.

  • Your child with anxiety will find confidence in their abilities to handle hard things. They will reduce their worries and find positive ways to think about the situations.

  • Your child with trauma will find calm and regulation in their bodies. They will find safety in the world again.

  • Your child with depression will find joy and excitement in the little things again. They will finally "be themselves" again.

Your child can thrive  in this life. They just need a little help.

Connected Counseling operates through a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) lens

This means that we seek to see your child’s need behind his/her behavior. This is different for each child, which may be why your parenting approach that worked with one child, is not working with another. It is our job to help you identify this need and give you and your child the tools to meet these needs in a healthy way. We love to help your child feel connected, empowered, and corrected, which is what every child needs to grow and flourish

What you can expect

The first session will be 60-90 minutes long and will be with parents only. This gives the therapist and parents the opportunity to speak openly about any concerns without the child hearing. This also gives the therapist background information before starting the assessment portion of treatment. At the end of this first session, your therapist will give you a recommendation on the next steps for treatment.

Typically, the next step is having 3-5 sessions with your child to assess the need behind the behaviors. Once the therapist believes she has identified this, there will be another parent meeting to discuss these results and create a plan for how to help your child get his/her need met in a healthy way.
